Step 1

  • Determine if you are making a page for
    • A Bill
    • An Act
    • A Code
    • A Section of a Code

Step 2

  • Create a page with the name:
    • xxyx-#### for a Bill where xx is us or a two letter state code, y is h for House and s for Senate, x is r for resolution or b for bill and #### is the number for the bill
    • The name of the Act
    • ##xxc for a Code where ## is the title number of the code, xx is us or a two letter state code, and c is a constant
    • ##xxc-#### for a Section of a Code where ## is the title number of the code, xx is us or a two letter state code, c is a constant, and #### is the section number
  • There are three ways to create a page, follow the link for details. Do not put a colon ":" in the page name
  • Copy the contents of this page: legislation-template to the new page
  • Title the page with the name:
    • US House/Senate Resolution #### or State Name Resolution/Bill #### where #### is the number for the *Bill*
    • The name of the *Act*
    • Title ## of the US Code where ## is the Title Number of the *Code*
    • ## US Code ยง#### where ## is the Title Number and #### is the *Section* number

Step 3 - Details

  • A brief one-line description of the legislation
  • Add a link to the legislature that originated the legislation
  • If the page is a *Title* and *Section* add a link to the Act that created it
  • If the page is a *Bill* and *Act* add the details for the code
  • Add any details in the Outcomes

Step 4 - Section of the Code, Case History & Mentions

  • Replace TAG with the tag for the page in the Section of the Code, Case History, and Mentions sections
  • Add the tag for the page to [[project:tags-laws]]
  • If the page is not a *Title*, remove the Sections of the Code section

Step 5 - Links

  • Under See also link to any openargswiki page relating to this page
  • Under Links link to any external page relating to this page

Step 8 - Add Tags

  • Always add:
law new-page
  • If the page is for an Bill add the tags
bill

* Add the xxyx code used above
  • If the page is for a Act add the tags
act

* Add xxact where xx is us or a two letter state code
  • If the page is for a Code add the tags
code-section

* Add ##xxc where ## is the title number and xx is us or a two letter state code

Step 9 - Populate Lists

  • Use Wikidot's search function to look up the name of the legal term or variations thereof
