  • October 20, 1973 - "The Saturday Night Massacre" Richard Nixon orders the firing of Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox. Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus resign rather than carry out the order. Acting Attorney General Robert Bork fires Cox
  • August 9, 1974 - Nixon resigns
